Thoughts From the Coffee Table: I swear, I only ate three.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of leading the first of three interactive sessions with the Emerging Leaders group within National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD).
I often only get an hour or two with groups. Never enough to see transformation. Knowing I get to guide leadership discussions with this group throughout the year is exciting! We can dive deeper and grow together.
I was incredibly impressed by the openness and honesty of the group, all new to each other as a whole group. They jumped right in, committed to their development.
I’ve been thinking about butterflies lately. We often think that the butterfly, transforming from a caterpillar, reflects the way we grow after challenges. It does.
But we may not consider the pain and discomfort that caterpillar must experience at every stage of that process.
It looks so seamless on time lapsed photos. The caterpillar wrapped in a cozy cocoon, emerges beautiful and happy. But we don’t see what is going on inside. We don’t feel it. We don’t live it.
24 people made a commitment to continual development, knowing at times it will be painful. It will be uncertain. It will challenge comfort zones.
But there is no question that it is worth it. A transformation.
